Three Dies, Others Injured As Truck Crashes into Bus In Enugu

A tragic accident occurred in Emene, a suburb of Enugu, when a truck transporting laterite lost control and collided with a mini bus carrying passengers.

The incident, which took place around 7 p.m. on Friday at Orie Emene Junction, resulted in the death of at least three individuals on the spot, with two others critically injured.

A roadside vendor and her daughter were also affected by the accident.

The mini bus, which was packed with seven passengers and the driver, was traveling from Old Park to Emene when the collision happened.

Eyewitnesses reported that as the truck approached the junction from Adoration Road, it crossed the railway line and crashed into the stationary mini bus, which had stopped to discharge passengers.

An eyewitness described the scene, saying, “Passengers scrambled to escape, but three people were crushed under the truck’s wheels while two others were seriously injured. The injured were rushed to Annunciation Hospital in Emene.”

The eyewitness further noted, “The truck was not speeding, and there was no indication of brake failure. It veered off course after crossing the tracks and hit the mini bus.”

The truck driver has been apprehended by the police.

However, there are concerns that he might evade justice through bribery.

Calls for thorough investigation and appropriate charges, such as manslaughter or even murder, have been made in response to the tragic loss of life and the suffering of the injured.
