Three die watching Super Eagles AFCON semi-final

Three people on Wednesday died while watching the African Cup of Nations semi-finals between Nigeria and South Africa.

They are; a member of the National Youths Service Corps, identified as Samuel; Deputy Bursar of Kwara State University, Malete, Ayuba Abdullahi; and a Former Delta State House of Representatives member Cairo Ojougboh.

According to the report, Samuel who was serving in Adamawa, slumped just before the final kick which secured Nigeria’s win in the match.  

Abdullahi on the other hand died as a result of the tension during the penalty shootout which triggered his blood pressure beyond the limit.  While Ojougboh, collapsed immediately after a penalty kick was awarded against Nigeria.

The incident occurred as football enthusiasts witnessed the AFCON tournament’s intense moments, where the Super Eagles of Nigeria beat Bafana Bafana of South Africa 4-2 in penalties to reach the African Cup of Nations finals. 

The Super Eagles secured a penalty after African Player of the Year Victor Osimhen was brought down in the box by Mothobi Mvala (South Africa) at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake, Ivory Coast.
