A potentially disastrous vandalism attack on a transmission line in Benue State was thwarted by the quick thinking and vigilance of community members.

According to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the attack occurred on Saturday at Watuolo village, Utonkon, in Ado Local Government Area.

The TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mbah, praised the community’s swift action, saying: “TCN commends the people of Watuolo village for their swift action and vigilance.

We equally appeal to communities hosting critical infrastructure to emulate this example and take ownership of protecting transmission installations in their vicinity.”

The community members noticed suspicious activity around the tower at about 3 a.m. and promptly apprehended one of the suspected vandals, handing him over to the police.

The TCN has appealed to communities to remain vigilant and protect critical infrastructure, as vandalism can have severe consequences for the power supply.

This incident highlights the importance of community involvement in preventing vandalism and protecting critical infrastructure.

The TCN’s collaboration with host communities is crucial in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the power supply.
