The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier General Muhammad Fadah has appealed to relevant stakeholders in the country to support the implementation of the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers, (HIRD).
Brigadier General Fadah made the appeal during the swearing in ceremony of the 2022 Batch B stream one, corps members held at the permanent orientation camp, Iseyin,Oyo State on Tuesday.
The DG, who was represented by the Oyo State Coordinator, of NYSC, Mrs. Grace Ogbuogebe, stressed that the health initiative is aimed at providing easier, free and qualitative health care for rural dwellers in the country.
He maintained that the presence of NYSC was felt more in the grassroots which lacked easy access to quality healthcare.
He also enjoined corps members to embrace the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme provided during the service period, adding that “the days of expecting white collar jobs are no longer an easy venture.”
“I encourage you to avail yourselves of the opportunities for self-employment offered through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme you are expected to choose from any of the skill areas, and make yourselves available for the training, which starts from the Orientation Camp. The Management will continue to work with relevant stakeholders for the success of the programme.
“We are putting heads together to ensure that stakeholders partners with the establishment of the NYSC Trust Fund.
“I call on all stakeholders to support the establishment of the NYSC Trust Fund which has reached an advanced stage of legislation and will enhance the smooth operation of the scheme”
Speaking further, she urged the corps members to avoid using the social media in fueling hatred, and fake news.
The NYSC DG, said “the social media should be used to promote national unity and development”.
High point of the event was the administration oath of allegiance by the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Muktar Abimbola who was represented at the occasion by Honourable Justice Iyabo Yerima.
Meanwhile, a total of 1,460 corps members comprising 518 males and 942 females were posted to Oyo State for the mandatory service year.
