In the aftermath of a devastating airstrike that killed 10 villagers in Sokoto State, Governor Ahmed Aliyu is seeking answers and providing aid to the affected families. The incident occurred when a military fighter jet pursuing insurgents mistakenly dropped bombs on Gidan Bisa village, leaving many livestock dead and several others injured.
Governor Aliyu has donated N20 million and 100 bags of assorted foodstuffs to the families of the deceased, and has also called for a thorough investigation into the incident. He urged the military to take necessary measures to avoid such mistakes in the future and prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased and strength for their families to bear the loss.
The governor, who was accompanied by the APC leader in the state, Senator Aliyu Magarakarda Wamakko, and the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, joined other villagers for the funeral prayers of the deceased. He described the incident as unfortunate and an act destined to happen by the Almighty Allah.
The council chairman of the area, Abubakar Gitta Rana, confirmed that the incident occurred at about 6 am when two military fighter jets dropped bombs on the village. The governor’s swift response to the incident is a testament to his commitment to the welfare of his people, and his call for an investigation is a step in the right direction towards ensuring that such incidents do not happen again in the future.
