DELTA: The Senate has officially acknowledged the defection of Senator Ned Nwoko (Delta North) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), following his recent resignation from the opposition party.
Senator Nwoko cited the internal crisis and instability within the PDP as key reasons for his move to the APC. He also claimed that Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa did not provide him the space to function effectively within the party.
According to a report by Channels TV, loud chants erupted in the Senate chamber as Nwoko was escorted to the majority wing of the Upper Chamber.
In a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Nwoko urged the Senate to set up an ad hoc committee to investigate the crisis within the PDP, stressing the importance of a strong opposition for Nigeria’s democratic stability.
“A viable opposition is essential for democracy. The current crisis within the PDP threatens that balance, and I urge the Senate to intervene,” Nwoko stated.
