Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, representing Delta South Senatorial District, has criticised successive Federal Government administrations for neglecting Delta South in terms of infrastructure, human capital development, and governance inclusivity.

Speaking at a Strategic Leadership Retreat in Emede, Delta State, on Tuesday, Senator Onowakpo highlighted the disparity in treatment despite the district’s significant contributions to Nigeria’s crude oil and gas production.

“Delta South gives its all to this country, yet we face severe deprivation,” Onowakpo lamented.

He pointed out the lack of government presence, environmental degradation, and minimal developmental efforts as clear indicators of the unfair treatment the region endures.

Despite these challenges, he expressed optimism in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, believing it can reverse the neglect through its Renewed Hope Agenda.

He emphasised the urgent need to address issues like pollution, erosion, and economic empowerment in Delta South.

The Senator additionally appointed over 180 legislative aides, surpassing the standard quota of five, to ensure comprehensive representation and support for his constituents.

The Senator thereafter urged his aides to utilise their roles effectively, promising to empower them to enhance Delta South’s political landscape.

The event was concluded with the presentation of appointment letters and pledges from aides to work diligently in their new roles
