S’Court affirms eight govs election victory

The Supreme Court on Friday upheld the election victory of the eight governors who were declared winners of their various states’ governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The governors are Babajide Sanwo-olu of Lagos, Abba Yusuf of Kano, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, Caleb Mutfwang, of Plateau, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Alex Otti of Abia and Bassey Otu of Cross River.

The apex court set aside the decision of the Court of Appeals Abuja, which had declared the governorship election inconclusive and ordered a re-run in some of the states while in other states, the tribunal like kano, the appeal court sacked the governor.

However, the Supreme Court, after weighing the Appeal Courts judgement upheld INEC’s declaration declaring all governors as winners of the 2023 governorship elections.
