Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has been elected as the new chairman of the Southwest Governors’ Forum.
During a closed-door meeting in Lagos on Monday, the six governors from the Southwest zone—representing Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, and Lagos unanimously chose Sanwo-Olu to head the forum.
This decision follows six months after the passing of the former Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, on December 27, 2023.
In addition to electing a new chairman, the forum adopted the “Iṣẹ̀ wà fùń Ilẹ wá” song as the official Southwest (Yoruba) anthem.
As one of his first actions as chairman, Sanwo-Olu has directed the agriculture commissioners from the member states to develop a comprehensive plan to address food insecurity in the region.
