The Rivers State Judicial Commission of Inquiry has summoned allies of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike in relation to post-election violence that resulted in attacks on local government secretariats.
Chairman Hon. Justice I. R. Minakiri announced the summons in a statement on Monday. Among those called to testify are Dr. Samuel Nwanosike, former Chairman of Ikwerre LGA, and current officials from Eleme and Ahoada East, Obarilomate Ollor and Hope Ikiriko.
Also summoned is Hon. Aforji Igwe, representative for Eleme Constituency in the State Assembly, who is aligned with Wike. The affected LGAs include Ikwerre, Eleme, and Emuoha.
A total of 109 individuals have been summoned as witnesses, with hearings scheduled from October 30 through November 11. The inquiry focuses on arson, killings, and property destruction that occurred around October 7, 2024. Witnesses are expected to provide evidence and documents related to the inquiry.
For those summoned, failure to appear could result in repercussions, as emphasized in the commission’s statement.
