The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice-Admiral (rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, has confirmed the resignation of the state’s Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, describing it as an unfortunate development.
Ibas commended Nwaeke’s contributions during his tenure and wished him success in his future endeavors.
In the interim, Dr. Iyingi Brown, Permanent Secretary for Welfare in the Office of the Head of Service, has been appointed to serve in an acting capacity until a new Head of Service is named.
Additionally, Ibas announced the appointment of Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
He stated that Worika was chosen after a thorough selection process, highlighting his strong credentials, extensive experience, and commitment to service.
“Prof. Worika’s distinguished career in academia, international legal practice, and policy advisory roles makes him well-equipped to support the administration in delivering on President Tinubu’s mandate.
His appointment takes immediate effect,” Ibas said.
He emphasized that Worika’s appointment aligns with his administration’s commitment to leveraging the talents of Rivers people to promote peace, stability, and security in the state.
Worika, an indigene of Okrika in Rivers State, is a globally recognized scholar, legal expert, and seasoned administrator.
He holds a Ph.D. in International Environmental and Comparative Petroleum Law & Policy from the University of Dundee, United Kingdom.
He has held key academic and administrative positions, including serving as the Director of the Centre for Advanced Law Research at Rivers State University and as Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Port Harcourt.
