Rivers Crisis: PDP Govs Shun Wike, Backs Fubara

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors and key party organs have expressed firm support for Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara amidst ongoing political challenges in the state.

They convened at the Government House in Enugu for a crucial meeting where they issued a communique detailing their commitment to resolving the internal strife peacefully.

Led by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, the assembly emphasised the need for unity within the party ranks to enable Governor Fubara to deliver effective governance without distractions.

They urged against actions that could destabilise the government and impede progress in Rivers State.

The meeting also addressed several national issues including preparations for upcoming party congresses, the Edo and Ondo governorship elections, and the implications of recent Supreme Court rulings affecting local government autonomy.

Governor Mohammed criticised the federal government’s economic policies, highlighting concerns over rising inflation, corruption, and deteriorating living standards. He called for pragmatic measures to rejuvenate the economy and restore prosperity for Nigerians.

Furthermore, the Governors endorsed fair and transparent processes for the party’s internal elections across all states, stressing adherence to constitutional guidelines.

They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting local government autonomy as enshrined in Nigeria’s Constitution.

Attendees at the meeting included Governors from various PDP-controlled states, underscoring their collective determination to promote good governance and uphold democratic principles ahead of critical electoral processes.

Those who attended the meeting included: Governor Bala Mohammed (Bauchi) as chairman;
Governor Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers) as vice chairman; Governor Peter Mbah as host; Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa) as member.

Others are: Governor Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom); Governor Douye Diri (Bayelsa); Governor Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta); Governor Godwin Obaseki (Edo); Governor Seyi Makinde (Oyo); Governor Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau); Governor Agbu Kefas (Taraba); and Governor Dauda Lawal (Zamfara).
