A heavy rainstorm on Friday killed one person while several houses were destroyed at Ita-Ogbolu Community, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The rainstorm also destroyed electric poles and communication network masts in the community and rendered many residents homeless.
The Ondo State Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has the residents of swift assistance to the affected victim.
Aiyedatiwa stated this after inspecting the damages during a visit to the community on Saturday.
The governor who was accompanied by his deputy, Chief Olaide Adelami, and the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr Olamide Oladiji, sympathised with the victims and promised that the government would come to their aid.
Earlier, at the palace of the monarch of Ita-Ogbolu, the Governor expressed his pain towards the loss of life and the huge number of affected properties.
He said, “The State Emergency Management Agency has been on the ground to compile and assess the affected houses and would ensure succour gets to the victims on time.”
“I want to sympathise with Kabiyesi and the people of Ita-Ogbolu on this unfortunate disaster. We thank God that it was not more than that. May God give the family of the one who lost her life the fortitude to bear the loss.
“The government has made arrangements for the disaster and I can assure you that we will do the needful when we see the detailed reports,” the governor said.
The monarch of Ita-Ogbolu, Oba Idowu Faborode, commended the governor for the concern and support to the community.
