The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Hashimu Argungu, has expressed heartfelt condolences to the Niger State Government and families of the victims of Saturday morning’s tragic tanker explosion at Dikko Junction in Niger State.
In a statement released to NATIONAL TELESCOPE by the PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, DIG Argungu described the incident as shocking and deeply saddening, emphasising that the loss of lives in such an avoidable tragedy was heart-wrenching.
He lamented the devastating images of the explosion’s aftermath, calling for urgent measures to enhance road safety across the country.
He stated, “Road safety should be treated with the same importance as the air we breathe. Authorities tasked with ensuring the safety of our roads must step up and fulfill their responsibilities to prevent such calamities.”
The PSC Chairman sympathised with the government and people of Niger State over the unfortunate incident and prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives.
He also extended his condolences to the families of affected individuals, including street traders and travelers who may have been caught in the explosion.
DIG Argungu prayed for divine intervention to spare Nigeria from similar disasters in the future.
