A large crowd of protesters, supported by various groups from across the Kaduna metropolis, gathered to demand President Bola Tinubu’s resignation.
The demonstration reportedly began at the Stadium Roundabout in Kaduna.
The protest started at 10:15 am on Monday, with participants marching along Junction Road toward Ahmadu Bello Road.
They chanted, “Tinubu ze soka’ kaa’sa,” which loosely translates to “Tinubu must step down.”
The demonstrators carried banners, flags in Nigeria’s green-white-green colours, and placards bearing messages such as “#End Hunger in Nigeria.”
They assembled around the Stadium Roundabout before beginning their march.
As the protesters made their way through the city, they hailed every military van they encountered, shouting and chanting, “Tinubu yaa’so’ka, mu’na so soja,” meaning “Tinubu step down, we want soldiers.”
Six police vans with anti-riot officers circled the area, sirens blaring, to manage the growing crowd.
Additional security personnel were stationed at strategic points along Ahmadu Bello Road, leading to the Central Market.
By 10:45 am, more protesters joined from Constitution Road, Saudana Crescent, Katuru Road, Offa Road, and Abuja Road, swelling the crowd heading towards the Central Market.
Some protesters were seen waving a flag resembling the Russian flag.
The crowd chanted in Hausa, “Bama so,” meaning “We don’t want hunger.” A more radical faction of the group expressed their anger by burning and tearing the Nigeria flag.
Despite the police’s efforts to calm the protesters and clear the roads, the demonstrators insisted on proceeding to the Government House.
This defiance prompted security forces to call for reinforcements as the number of protesters continued to grow.
