In the aftermath of the tragic school building collapse at Saint Academy in Jos, which claimed the lives of several students and left many others injured, Hon. Comr Asefon Sunday Dayo, Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Student Engagement, visited the scene and affected students in hospitals on Monday.
Asefon’s visit aimed to assess the situation firsthand and offer support to the victims and their families, a statement made available to NATIONAL TELESCOPE on Tuesday said.
At Saint Academy, he witnessed the devastating aftermath of the collapse and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives.
He also visited hospitals where survivors are currently undergoing treatment, including Plateau Specialist Hospital, Jos, Bingham University Teaching Hospital, and Our Lady of Apostles Hospital (OLA Hospital).
During his hospital visits, Asefon met with the Chief Medical Directors and discussed the progress of treatments being administered to the injured students.
He emphasised the need for swift and comprehensive medical attention to ensure the best possible outcomes for the survivors.
In addition to engaging with medical personnel, Asefon also conferred with the Plateau State Commissioner for Secondary Education to discuss the circumstances surrounding the collapse and explore measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
Speaking to reporters during his visit, Asefon conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the incident.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed souls and urged for unity and resilience among the affected community during this difficult time.
“As a representative of President Tinubu, it is our duty to ensure that every necessary support is extended to the victims and their families. We are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to work closely with local authorities to provide assistance wherever possible,” Asefon stated.
