Precious Cornerstone Varsity to award 10 first class, holds Convocation Saturday

No fewer than 10 graduates of Precious Cornerstone University (PCU), will be awarded first class degree at the 2nd convocation ceremony schedule to hold on Saturday, November.

This is as the institution graduates 100 students who will be awarded degrees in various discipline.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Julius Kola Oloke, disclosed this on Friday at the pre-convocation press conference, held at the University’s boardroom.

He said the graduating students have been trained to stand out in excellence as royalties, in their chosen fields, despite the trend of mediocrity among the polity.

Rolling out names of the outstanding students, the VC said, “Salami Mojoolaoluwa Oluwatimileyin of Economics Department emerged as the best graduating student for year 2023 with a CGPA of 5.00 while a breakdown of the 100 Graduating Students shows that 10 have First Class, 30 have Second Class Upper, 48 have Second Class Lower, and 12 having Third Class.

“They have been trained to be solution providers and part of the training is to commercialize their areas of specialization. To this effect, each graduating students has an academic degree and an entrepreneurship certification,” he said.

According to the VC, the role of private universities in Nigeria cannot be overemphasised, especially a Christian based University. The discipline we inculcate are redemptive and not destructive.

“There is a huge gap that the private universities have been trying to fill and Precious Cornerstone University has been in the forefront of making education accessible to these teeming youths, not only that we drive our students on entrepreneurship. We emphasize on labour, not just academics. We also insist our student registers their own company with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) before graduating”.

Education is very critical to the development of a nation and it has been widely acclaimed that a nation cannot rise above level of the education of her citizens.

“The VC lauded on the achievements of the University as the National Universities Commission (NUC) has given full accreditation for Computer Science programme during the academic year, likewise the Institute if Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (I CAN) accredited the department of Accounting which implies exemption of our Accounting graduates from preliminary examination amidst many benefits”.

“These new developments have boosted the standard of the University. Other programmes available include: B.Sc. Accounting, B. Sc. Microbiology, B.Sc. Biochemistry, B. Sc.Cyber Security, B.Sc. International Relations, B. Sc. Software Engineering, B. Sc. Mass Communication, B. Sc. Procurement Management, B. Sc.Industrial Chemistry, B. Sc. Industrial Mathematics, B. Sc. Physics with Electronics. B. Sc. Economics and B. Sc. Computer Science.”

He assured that the university will not compromise in it’s efforts to attain world standard in education sector, stressing that it is the dream of the founder, Bishop Francis Wale Oke to develop the university to global standard.

The 2nd Convocation ceremony of the Institution will feature thanksgiving service, a convocation play in partnership with the Zion Royal Theatre of the Mount Zion Institute of Christian Drama, convocation lecture and dinner with the graduating students.

The Award of Degrees and Prizes will however be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023.
