The Nigeria Police Force has arrested three individuals suspected of housebreaking and robbery in Abuja, leading to the recovery of stolen gold and other valuables.
During a media briefing in Abuja, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed that the arrests were made following investigations by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT).
According to Adejobi, the primary suspect in the case was identified as a fish trader at the Kado fish market in Abuja.
The suspects reportedly targeted four houses in the Lugbe area. In the fourth house, they used a motor jack to widen the bars of a burglar-proof barrier, gaining entry.
Once inside, they located a safe, which they forcibly opened with a hammer and chisel, finding money, documents, and gold.
The stolen items were later sold, netting the suspects over N60 million.
In a related development, Adejobi announced that the IRT had apprehended 16 suspects involved in the theft and robbery of motorcycles and tricycles in Plateau State.
These individuals were found to be using fake police identity cards to intimidate motorcyclists and tricycle operators, confiscating their vehicles under false pretenses.
Adejobi confirmed the recovery of eight motorcycles and 11 tricycles from the suspects.
Over the past six weeks, the police have arrested a total of 1,284 suspects for various offenses, including armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, homicide, and cultism.
Among the items recovered during these operations were 284 firearms, 6,702 rounds of ammunition, and 107 vehicles.
Similarly, 97 kidnap victims were rescued within this period.
The police urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station to help curb crime in the community.
