The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspected ritualist in Ilorin, the state capital, after receiving a distress call about an attempted homicide.
On July 2, 2024, at about 6:00 PM, the Onidoko Police Post reported an incident that occurred at approximately 5:30 PM in the Abab Oke-Foma area of Ilorin.
Police Public Relations Officer, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, said in a statement that a 10-year-old boy, Akeem Nurudeen, from the Abab area of Abayawo, Ilorin, was hawking pepper when he was lured into a room by a suspect named Isiaka Adeniyi, 46, from the Ifedapo community, Oke-Foma area, Ilorin.
The suspect allegedly lured the boy under the guise of buying pepper, then covered his face with cloth and attempted to slaughter him with a knife.
Community members swiftly intervened, apprehending the suspect and bringing him to the station.
Preliminary investigations are ongoing, with the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and discreet investigation.
Similarly, the Delta State Police Command arrested a gang of four kidnappers who had been Terrorising the Ughelli axis.
During the operation, one suspect was shot dead, and three others were detained, with AK-47 rifles recovered.
Four months earlier, the gang had kidnapped and murdered a male resident (name withheld).
Public Relations Officer Bright Edefe explained, “Based on credible intelligence, the operatives led by ASP Julius Robinson cracked down on the kidnapping syndicate on July 1, 2024, around noon.
They arrested Ismaila Umaru, 28, from Kekura Village in Awe LGA of Nasarawa State, residing in Oghara town by Power Line, Delta State.”
On July 4, 2024, at about 8:30 PM, Umaru led the police to arrest two other gang members: Chede Mohammed, 18, from Nasarawa State, living in Agwara, Ughelli South LGA, and Mohammadu Sani, 26, from Banbiru area of Abuja, residing in Upper Agbarho, Ughelli North.
Acting on their confessions at about 5:30 AM on July 5, 2024, the police stormed a bush in Oviri-Ogor and faced an attack from other gang members.
One suspect hiding in the bush was seriously injured by gunfire and later died in the hospital.
An AK-49 rifle was recovered from the hideout, and the investigation is ongoing
