In a swift operation, the Katsina State Police Command thwarted a kidnap attempt in Gidan Zuma village, Sabuwa Local Government Area, on Wednesday.
Armed bandits, wielding AK-47 rifles and riding motorcycles, had tried to block the Inono feeder road to abduct unsuspecting commuters.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Thursday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Abubakar Sadiq, praised the operatives for their quick response.
“Based on credible intelligence, our operatives from the Faskari Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly mobilized and engaged the suspects in a fierce gun duel,” Sadiq said.
“The bandits were forced to flee with various degrees of gunshot injuries due to the superior firepower of our men.”
During the operation, police recovered a Honda motorcycle abandoned by the fleeing suspects, now held as an exhibit. Sadiq assured that efforts were being intensified to apprehend the fleeing bandits, with officers combing the area.
Commending the officers, the Commissioner of Police applauded their bravery and dedication to protecting lives and property in Katsina State.
“This successful operation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to safeguarding the citizens of Katsina. We will not relent in our fight against crime,” the CP stated.
Residents of Gidan Zuma expressed relief at the police intervention. Musa Lawal, a local, said,
“The police responded quickly, and we are grateful. These criminals have terrorized our community for too long.”
As security forces ramp up efforts to combat banditry in the region, the police urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
