Human rights activist Comrade Israel Joe has announced that the Delta State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has endorsed a peaceful protest during the upcoming nationwide #EndHardship demonstration in the state.
Israel Joe shared this update on his Facebook page on Saturday morning, stating that he met with police authorities at the Delta State Command headquarters to discuss the planned peaceful protest.
According to Joe, the meeting underscored a mutual understanding and commitment to supporting citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly.
“We have done our bit, and this should be on record that we didn’t speak from both sides of our mouths but supported the masses in their lowest moments without selling out,” Joe emphasised, expressing his unwavering support for the masses.
The police confirmed their stance, making it clear that while they will not prevent the protest, they will not tolerate any form of violence or destruction of public and private property.
“If you must come out to protest, don’t make it violent,” the police advised.
In a show of solidarity and preparedness, Joe announced that a team of lawyers is on standby to defend peaceful protesters should there be any state-sponsored violence against them.
Addressing detractors, Joe remarked, “Those comrades and activists who have sold out and are still willing to sell out, coming to social media to give unreasonable reasons, are free to do so at the expense of their future as posterity owes all of us.”
Joe expressed gratitude to Deo’s Hub for capturing the significant moment and praised his team, stating, “My present team of comrades are just the best.”
The #EndHardship protest is set to continue, with activists and supporters committed to ensuring a peaceful demonstration to highlight the hardships faced by Nigerians.
