The Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, continues to achieve significant milestones in its efforts to combat crime. In a recent breakthrough in Kano, the police uncovered counterfeit currencies totaling N129,542,823,000. The haul included $3,366,000 in counterfeit US Dollars, 51,970 counterfeit CFA Francs, and 1,443,000 counterfeit Naira.
This development was disclosed in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Tuesday.
The recovery occurred on December 8, 2024, in Gwale, Kano State, when police operatives, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended a suspect, Nura Ibrahim. A search revealed N392,000 in counterfeit notes, $7,800 in counterfeit US Dollars, and five ATM cards. Further investigations led to the arrest of two accomplices, Muhammed Muntari and Usman Abdullahi, and the recovery of the remaining fake currency.
In a separate operation, the police arrested three suspected gunrunners on December 9, 2024, along the Kaduna-Kano expressway in Kaduna State. The suspects, identified as Buhari Suleiman, Jamil Yakubu, and Aliyu Abdullahi, were apprehended after exhibiting suspicious behavior. A search yielded 216 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and one AK-47 round.
Additionally, on December 8, 2024, police operatives in Kebbi State successfully rescued 36 kidnapped victims along the Mairairai/Bena Road in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area. The victims were ambushed while returning from their farms. Following the rescue, the police engaged with the community, debriefed the victims, and reassured residents of their commitment to ensuring safety and security.
Inspector-General of Police Egbetokun reaffirmed the force’s dedication to tackling crime, particularly activities that undermine national security and economic stability. “The force remains vigilant, steadfast, and unforgiving towards those who would threaten the national security and economic progress of our dear country,” he stated.
