Children rescued as Police arrest Kidnappers in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of some of its officers allegedly involved in the kidnapping of minors in the state.

According to ASP Ahmad Rufai, the command’s spokesperson, officers identified as ASP Kulu and one named Elizabeth have been apprehended. The command has launched investigations into the alleged abduction of five children.

An Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Kulu, and her accomplice, Elizabeth, were nabbed by the FCT police command for reportedly abducting five children, including a baby girl less than two weeks old, in Sokoto.

Rufai stated, “Both the suspects and victims were transferred and handed over to the command from the FCT police command for further investigation into the matter.”

The abducted children include three toddlers under two years old and five-year-old Asmau Ya’u, who was taken while on her way to an Islamiyya school in Sokoto.

The suspects were apprehended during a journey from Sokoto to Abuja in an 18-seater commercial bus. Alert passengers noticed the children’s custodians couldn’t breastfeed them during the seven-hour journey and alerted the police near Abuja.

Sirajo Madawaki, the state official of the Human Rights Network, stated that the case was transferred from Abuja to the network office in Sokoto. An investigation is underway.

Madawaki assured that the network would ensure the suspects were prosecuted and the children were reunited with their parents.

ASP Kulu, serving with the Kubwa Division, had applied for leave, which was not granted before her trip to Sokoto.”
