Police Arrest Armed Robbers, Seize Firearms, Ammo In Delta

The police in Delta State today confirmed the arrest of some suspected arned robbers, cultiest and kidnapping in Sapele, Oghara, and surrounding areas of the state,

The arrest was made following a series of cult-related activities, kidnappings, and armed robberies in Sapele, Oghara, and surrounding areas.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, directed a special team to collaborate with the DPOs of Oghara and Sapele Divisions to address the issue.

In a statement by the police public relations officer, PPRO, SP Edafe Bright, said, “on 18th July 2024, at around 9:30 AM, a team led by ASP Julius Robinson conducted a covert intelligence-led operation. They raided three different syndicates of suspected cultists and armed robbers at various locations in Oghara Town, Ethiope East LGA of Delta State. 

“The operation resulted in the arrest of five suspects, “Ochuko Joel Ofoye, male, 35 years old, from Jeddo Community in Okpe LGA, Delta State, and a member of the Juris Confraternity.

“Michael Anwul, male, 29 years old, from Alisimie Community, Agbor in Ika South LGA, the State, and a custodian of arms for the Juris Confraternity. Two AK-47 magazines and twenty-nine rounds of live ammunition were recovered from his possession.

“Great Ojareri, male, 35 years old, from Oghareki Community in Ethiope West LGA, the State, and a member of the Eiye Confraternity, also a custodian of arms.

“Innocent Esefeta, male, 31 years old, from Efisere Community in Ughelli North LGA, the State, and residing behind Ibori Road, Oghara, Delta State. The investigation revealed he owned the recovered Beretta pistol.

“Ogaga Ebuke, male, 27 years old, from Okpe Community in Orerokpe LGA, Delta State, and a resident of Western Delta Road in Oghara. He is a member of the Juris Confraternity. A locally made pistol with one live cartridge concealed in a shoe was recovered from his residence.

“The suspects are currently in custody, and the investigation is ongoing” Statement said
