PDP Sweeps Osun LG Polls Amid Controversy Over Arrest of Electoral Officials

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won all chairmanship and councillorship seats in the 30 local government areas of Osun State, following Saturday’s election conducted by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC).

Chairman of OSSIEC, Hashim Abioye, announced the results during a press briefing, describing the process as peaceful despite earlier concerns raised by the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).

However, he confirmed that some polling units faced delays due to the arrest of commission officials.According to Abioye,

“There was no court order for the arrest of our officials, yet they were taken into custody. This action disrupted the timely arrival of materials at some polling units.”

He also extended an apology to journalists over the lack of accreditation tags and jackets, explaining that the police had sealed off the commission’s office, affecting logistical arrangements.

With PDP securing a clean sweep of the local government seats, the election outcome is expected to spark political reactions in the state.
