PDP Suspends Dino Melaye Over Anti-Party

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended Senator Dino Melaye, a prominent party member, due to alleged anti-party activities.

As reported by Punch Online on Friday, the suspension was enacted by the Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1 party executive committee.

This decision followed an investigation by a disciplinary committee into Melaye’s recent conduct.

Melaye’s actions were reportedly considered damaging to the PDP’s interests and unity, leading to his suspension.

This action is part of a broader pattern, as the PDP has previously suspended other members for similar reasons.

For instance, Peter Babalola, a party leader from Osun, was suspended in August 2024 for alleged anti-party activities and for not attending party meetings for two years.

Additionally, former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom and Senator Gabriel Suswam faced suspensions or disciplinary measures by the Benue PDP for similar infractions.

The party’s efforts to enforce discipline and maintain unity are evident in these actions. Further details regarding Melaye’s suspension are expected to be released.

The suspension resolution stated: “Senator Dino Melaye’s conduct has caused embarrassment and disrepute to the party, making his continued membership untenable.

“Consequently, the Ward party executive committee hereby suspends Dino Melaye from the Peoples Democratic Party, effective immediately.

“This suspension is in accordance with Article 59 (1) of the PDP constitution, which authorizes Ward party executives to take disciplinary actions against errant members.”
