…Expands Security Fleet
The oyo State Government has revealed plans to invest N850 million in the Oyo Sugarcane Processors Limited in Iseyin through the state-owned Pacesetter Holdings Limited.
This according to a statement E-signed by the State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the decision was arrived at the Executive Council meeting on Tuesday.
The sugar plant, which is 90% complete and valued at ₦4.9 billion, is expected to create around 3,000 direct and indirect job opportunities.
The plant is projected to be fully operational by next year.
Highlighting the significance of this investment, the commissioner while briefing the press said, “The sugar plant will not only boost our economy but also provide thousands of jobs, enhancing the livelihoods of our people.”
He also disclosed that the state has approved ₦500 million for Abiola Ajimobi Technical University in Ibadan.
This capital grant will support the accreditation of the university’s programs for the 2024/2025 academic session, as stated by Professor Saliu Adelabu, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology.
He explained, “This funding will ensure that the university’s programs meet national standards and contribute to the advancement of education in our state.”
Furthermore, to enhance state security, the Executive Council has increased the number of vehicles for Operation Burst to 60 with the addition of 40 new security vehicles.
Other security agencies, including the Army, Police, and Civil Defence, have also received additional vehicles.
Oyo State Amotekun, noted for having the largest fleet of security vehicles in Southwest Nigeria, now operates 150 vehicles with a personnel strength of about 2,000.
Oyelade emphasised, “These measures are crucial to strengthening our security apparatus and ensuring the safety of our citizens.”
The state government has also allocated over ₦900 million as a counterpart fund to collaborate with the World Bank, which has provided ₦1 billion through the Better Education Service Delivery For All (BESDA) initiative.
This funding aims to tackle out-of-school children issues and improve educational infrastructure across Oyo State.
