Honourable Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West federal constituency, has voiced deep concerns over Nigeria’s economic situation, citing rising inflation, unemployment, and poverty as key contributors to the ongoing crisis.
Speaking in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Tolu Mustapha, Olajide emphasized the urgent need for a national dialogue to address these critical issues and develop sustainable solutions.
“We cannot continue to ignore the cries of our citizens, who are struggling to make ends meet,” Olajide stated. “It is our responsibility as leaders to come together and find a way forward.”
Proposing a National Dialogue for Economic Revival
To combat the current economic challenges, the lawmaker proposed a national dialogue that would bring together diverse stakeholders, including representatives from government, the private sector, civil society, and labour unions.
According to Olajide, the dialogue would aim to identify the root causes of the economic downturn and develop a comprehensive strategy to address them.
“Transparency and accountability in governance are crucial, as well as investments in education, healthcare, and infrastructure to stimulate economic growth,” he added.
Call to Action for the President
Olajide urged President Bola Tinubu to convene the national dialogue without further delay, stressing the urgency of the situation.
“We cannot afford to delay. The fate of our nation and the well-being of our citizens depend on our ability to act decisively and collectively,” he asserted.
The lawmaker’s call for a national dialogue reflects growing concern among Nigerians over the economic difficulties facing the country and the need for a unified response to achieve sustainable development and improve the quality of life for all citizens.
