The Oyo State Government has registered 12,128 hospitality businesses, signaling a major boost for tourism and investment in the state.

Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, disclosed this during a press conference at Eleyele Waterfront, Ibadan, ahead of the upcoming ‘Valentine Cruise’ event.

The number of registered hospitality ventures has surged from 1,328 in December 2019 to 12,128 in 2025.

This remarkable growth is attributed to the business-friendly policies of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration, which has created a conducive environment for investors.

The commissioner highlighted a significant rise in tourism, with daily tourist arrivals increasing from 1,604 before the current administration to 18,152 in 2025.

The hospitality sector has also seen impressive growth, with registered hotels increasing from 945 in 2019 to 4,678—a 395% rise.

Nightclubs grew from 78 to 1,898, marking a 2,333% surge.

Event centers expanded from 143 to 1,996, adding 1,853 new venues. Eateries and restaurants rose from 62 to 1,852, reflecting massive business growth.

The commissioner also announced the launch of the first-ever ‘Ibadan Valentine Cruise’ on Eleyele Lake, scheduled for Friday, February 14, 2025.

The event aims to promote peace, love, friendship, and aquatic tourism while creating job opportunities and boosting the state’s economy.

Olatunbosun emphasized that tourism development in Oyo State has thrived due to the government’s focus on security, infrastructure, and strong political will.

He also highlighted last year’s international tourism summit as a key factor in attracting more investors to the state.

Dr. Sanni Bamidele, CEO of Royal Entertainment Cruise, commended Governor Makinde’s efforts in advancing tourism and culture in Oyo State.

He expressed confidence that the Valentine Cruise would provide a safe and memorable experience for residents and visitors.
