The Nigeria Security And Civil Defense Corps, Oyo State Command has called on residents in the State to adopt peace as alternative when confronted with conflict.
The State Commandant, CC Adaralewa Michael made the call during a peace sensitisation visit to Lagelu local government area of Oyo State on Thursday.
Commandant who was represented by the command’s head of peace and conflict resolution unit, DCC Fatly Fachie said peace coexistence leads to prosperity and long life.
She disclosed that 168 cases have been settled in her unit through peaceful strategies.
According to her, the sensitisation visit which is in line with the directives of the NSCDC Commandant-General, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, is aimed at preaching peace in the State.
She said, “We are here to speak on peace and to alert your subject to live peacefully. This year alone we have settled different cases of conflicts. 168 cases have been settled.
“When they practice peace they can live very long . I advise everyone to always shun all forms of grudges.
“If your mind is peaceful and you are not having grudges with anybody at least anywhere, anytime you can join hands and eat with elders in the community.
“As humans we are bound to disagree and in the cause of some of this disagreement, there will be conflict but with quick intervention, peace will return to such community.
She urged the community residents and leaders to always provide information to the divisional officers on incident for quick Intervention.”
While speaking in an interview, she said, “There is conflict already generating, and we have come to warn them. There should be no conflict”.
Also speaking the Lagelu local government chairman, Hon. Badmus Abiodun who was represented by the head of local government administration, Olayinka Olatunde stressed the need for collective effort in ensuring peaceful coexistence in the State.
He said, “if there is no peace, there is nothing the government can do, peace is a collective effort.
“Everything within our effort will be put in place to support this agenda and we will communicate back to you.” He added.
