“Civil Defence has embraced peace as one of our cardinal projects in making sure that our society experiences peace and order. That is why we have the Peace and Conflict Unit saddled with the responsibility to resolve peace issues that would have resulted in a major crisis”, he said.

Speaking on the 2022 International Day, the head, Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit, DCC Fatty Fache said according to the mandate of the crisis management, the PCRU was set up to resolve disputes amongst people and ensure peace reigns.

“Genuine peace must be the product of many individuals, nations and communities. When peace and harmony are maintained, things will continue to run smoothly without delay. Communities will experience growth, marriages, families and individuals will learn to tolerate one another.

Similarly, a total of 299 different cases were recorded and achieved in the course of the year-land issues 32, marital 24, Bus transaction 159, relationship/family 12, communal 04, landlord/tenancy 55, herdsmen/farmers 02, others 11, she noted.

Giving his lecture on the theme, the National President of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice in Nigeria Dr. Danjibo Nathaniel Dominic representing the NSCDC went down history lane to explain the problems the nation faces which constitute to the theme of the International day. We see racism in education, in food, in language, in amenities, in employment, in justice, in sports, in Media and also in colour.

He stated that the United Nations Organisation established and saddled with the responsibility to promote peace since 1945, has systematically embellished and embedded racism in his operation.

He frowned at the performance of the United Nations saddled with the responsibility to preach what they say. In his words, the United Nations declaration in the fundamental right of the citizens issued in 1947 states that “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights” but the same United Nations are still practicing racism. A careful assessment of these issues will explain the place of the Africa right.

Reacting to the question posed on him by the stakeholders representing different communities, Dr Danjibo noted that in every problem there is a solution, and when the cause of a problem is not visible, people will chase shadows thereby resulting in no result.

The highlight of the International day celebration was the presentation of the sum of 1 million naira issued by the Oyo State Government, under the leadership of governor Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde on behalf of the Commandant General to the family of ASC11 Fatai Abiola, the fallen hero, who was killed in Ogbomoso during active service some months back.
