The Oyo State Government has extended its heartfelt condolences to families of victims of the tragic accident that occurred along the Ojoo-Iwo road axis in Ibadan, which claimed 16 lives.
In an official statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the acting Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as “devastating” and “grief-stricken.”
He assured that the state government would continue to work closely with relevant stakeholders to reduce the likelihood of such tragic events in future.
Top officials from the Ministry of Health have been dispatched to assess the condition of the victims.
Sixteen survivors, including five females, eleven males, and five children, are currently receiving medical treatment at a private facility in Agbowo, Ibadan.
In response to the accident, the government has initiated a coordinated effort with the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Agency (OYRTMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and other relevant bodies to prevent future occurrences and enhance the safety of road users.
The statement reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of its citizens.
It also urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to avoid similar incidents.
