Oyo Govt. harp on fitness to promote healthy living as Deril Academy holds 8th Inter-house Sport

The Oyo State Government has emphasised the need for regular fitness of the body in order to promote healthy living.

Speaking at the 8th Biennial Inter-house sports competition organised by Deril Academy at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium (Liberty Stadium) in Ibadan today (Thursday), the Oyo State Commissioner for Health Dr. Bashir Bello stated that body exercise increases mental alertness of the brain.

While reiterating commitment of the present administration towards quality education in the state, the commissioner who was represented by the Director of Medical Service, Ministry of Health, Dr. Olufemi Adesanya, maintained that education is one of the main pillars of the present Oyo State governor.

Commending the management of Deril Academy for organizing the event, the commissioner said the inter-house sport is unique among many others he has attended.

“I want to humbly congratulate the management and staff of Deril Academy for organizing this sporting event.

“Education is one of the main pillars of the administration of His Excellency, Engr. Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde, the executive governor of Oyo State and it is imperative for us to know the importance of health vis-a-vis exercise.

“Body exercise like this and inter-house sport encourages alertness of the brain and it is also a forum through wish talents is discovered and they are encouraged to represent the nation.

“Most importantly, such activities like this will promote sound health.

“I want to commend the parents and all the people who have contributed to this programme, you have done well for this school and for Oyo state in general.” He added.

Earlier in her address, the proprietress of Deril Academy, Dr. Victoria Bolanle Akintoye expressed the schools commitment towards healthy lifestyle of the students through sporting activities.

She explained that the inter-house sport which is a yearly activity is one of the uniqueness of the school that made it stand out among its contemporaries.

“I thank everyone who has come to celebrate with us this day. My joy is full today because it isn’t just a day for our children to have fun and to compete with one another but it is a milestone and achievement which we consider to be unique in our system as a school and as always, the result at the end of the day is not uncertain.

“I want to appreciate and notice the presence of the invited schools, you know Deril Academy for one thing, when it comes to sport, we have no equal.” She added.

The event however featured series of competitions with house representatives and another involving invited schools in the state.

Among some of the participants are: Amoo College, All Souls High School, Brightville College, Christ Ambassadors College, Command Secondary School, Christ Life College, De-Ayo Intl. School, and Ephraim Baptist Academy.

Others are: Gofamint School, God’s Vision Academy, Help Line College, Kings Intl. College and host of others.
