Oyo govt charges residents to elect preferred candidates for LGs

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has charged the electorate to vote for their preferred candidates during the April 27 local government election.

Stating that the election will make it the second time his government is conducting a council poll in less than five years.

Makinde said the previous administration did not conduct local government elections for seven years out of its eight-year tenure, respectively.

Makinde gave this charge to the top government functionaries and dignitaries, who paid him ‘Sallah’ homage at his Ikolaba, Ibadan home, in Oyo State.

The entourage was led by Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal.

The governor stated that the past administration which could not organise council poll for seven out of its eight-year tenure, should praise him and not accuse his government of insincerity.

He added that the election was not a do-or-die affair, as the people were at liberty to vote for their choice of leadership.

The governor said, “Let me take this opportunity to say that the local government election is barely three weeks away. I want to tell our people that, please, the election is not a do-or-die affair. It is whomever the people want that they will elect.

“When people go out and accuse us of insincerity, these are people who didn’t conduct elections for almost eight years. This is the second local government election we are organising under this administration.

“Let us intensify our campaign. This administration is all about the interests of the people. And the people know the difference between federal, state, and local elections.“
