Oyo State Farmers Applaud Gov. Makinde as Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency begins Distribution of Farm Assets in LGs
Governor Makinde’s promise to support farmers across Oyo state is being fulfilled as Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency , in partnership with the World Bank, commences the distribution of farm assets to farmers in various local government areas.
The initiative aims to aid genuine farmers affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and ensure food security throughout the state.
In a state-wide broadcast, Governor Makinde outlined measures to alleviate economic difficulties caused by the removal of the fuel subsidy, including food security and transportation.
As part of this effort, 10,000 farmers will receive additional farm inputs through the OYS-CARES program.
Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the support, commending the Governor’s initiatives.
One maize farmer from Owode Farmers Group in Ogbomoso South, Olusegun Ajao Moses, expressed deep appreciation for the assistance.
Mrs. Adebowale Florence, a cassava farmer in Oriire local government, shared her excitement at receiving 20 bundles of cassava cuttings, 2 bags of NPK fertilizer, and 1 liter of herbicide, which will undoubtedly boost her production.
Mr. Kolawole Adewumi Bamigbola, the state coordinator for Nigeria Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (N-Cares) Result Area 2, explained that a total of 90 beneficiaries in Ogbomoso South will benefit from the distribution, with 70 cassava farmers and 20 maize farmers receiving farm inputs worth millions of naira.
In Surulere local government, seven groups of cassava farmers will each receive 20 bundles of cassava cuttings, 2 bags of NPK fertilizer, and 1 liter of herbicide.
In Oriire local government, 10 groups comprising 80 cassava farmers and two groups of 20 maize farmers will receive inputs to enhance their production.
The Executive Chairman of Ogbomoso South local government, Hon. Oyedokun Oyeniyi Timothy, praised Governor Makinde’s intervention and urged beneficiaries to make good use of the provided farm inputs to increase their yields and ensure food security in the state.
He also encouraged the youth to seize the opportunity and showcase their farming skills.
