The Oyo State Executive Council has implemented key initiatives to enhance security, stimulate economic growth, and advance education within the state.
In an effort to bolster security, the council has expanded the fleet for Operation Burst to 60 vehicles by procuring 40 additional security vehicles. These enhancements extend beyond Operation Burst, as other security agencies, including the Army, Police, and Civil Defence, have also been equipped with more vehicles.
Notably, the Oyo State Amotekun Corps now has the largest security vehicle fleet, comprising 150 vehicles, and the highest personnel strength, with approximately 2,000 well-compensated members—the best paid in Southwest Nigeria.
The council has also approved a substantial investment of ₦850 million in Oyo Sugarcane Processors Limited, located in Iseyin, through Pacesetter Holdings Limited.
The sugar plant, currently 90% complete and valued at ₦4.9 billion, is poised to significantly boost the state’s economy. Upon completion, it is expected to create approximately 3,000 direct and indirect job opportunities, providing a substantial economic stimulus.
In addition to these economic and security efforts, the Oyo State government has also prioritised education. The council has approved a capital grant of ₦500 million for Abiola Ajimobi Technical University in Ibadan.
This grant is intended to support the accreditation of both new and existing programmes for the 2024/2025 academic session by the National Universities Commission.
Further emphasising its commitment to education, the state government has approved over ₦900 million as a counterpart fund in collaboration with the World Bank.
This partnership follows an earlier donation of ₦1 billion from the World Bank to the state through the Better Education Service Delivery For All (BESDA) initiative. The funds are aimed at advancing educational development, eradicating out-of-school children, and upgrading school infrastructure across the state.
