Osun govt extends LG caretaker committees’ tenure

The Osun State House of Assembly on Friday extended the tenure of office and re-appointed caretaker committees of 30 Local Government Areas and 39 others running Modakeke Area Office and Local Council Development Areas in the state.

This is contained in a statement made available to Journalists by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Olamide Tiamiyu.

Accoriding to the statement, the extension was sequel to a letter sent to the lawmakers through the Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, by the Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and read on the floor of the House at the plenary on Friday.

It read, “Moving a motion to that effect was the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Babajide Kofoworola Adewunmi, representing Ede North State Constituency. The motion was seconded by the Chief Whip, Hon. Adewale Akerele, from Ilesa West State Constituency.

“Hon. Babajide Adewunmi, however, emphasised that in line with the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria as amended, the State Assembly has the power to approve the extension.

“The members, after much deliberations and assessment of their performances, adopted the motion and approved the request thereby extending the tenure of the Caretaker Committees to August 2024.”
