Opinion: Nigeria Sitting on a Gun Powder Waiting to Explode

By Olufemi Ebenezer

There comes when silence is a betrayal (Martin Luther’s king Jr).

Checking back to 2015, it was a great joy and celebration across the country holding to the fact that president Muhammadu Buhari unseat the then government of peoples Democratic Party under president Goodluck Jonathan, one will wonder why the jubilation and celebration then but crying now?.

The way sadness works is one of the strange riddles of the world. If you are stricken with a great sadness, you may feel as if you have been set aflame, not only because of the enormous pain but also because your sadness may spread over your life, like smoke from an enormous fire.– Lemony Snicket.

The administration of president Buhari as not just bring only pain, but death, anguish, hope lost, nepotism, insecurities and disunity in the country; we have never had it bad like this, so unfortunate. Many will agree with me that president Buhari inherited a Peaceful and stable country but due to gross incompetence Nigeria as turn to graveyard, peoples live had no value again in the country.

It a glaring fact that PDP was voted out back in 2015 due to the boko haram menace but today under the watch of a Retired General, Nigeria security architecture as degenerated to a stage of only miracle can savage the situation we found ourselves.

Nigeria of today No place, no one is save under the present administration, it so unfortunate that some of our clerics can openly take pictures with bandits and criminals elements and no one is asking some fundamental questions, as at today security as degenerated to a level that even our government as to pay Ransom to bandits in order to set her captives free a case study of kankara school boy what a gross incompetence and shameless leaders we have in this era.

The country is under siege and the polity is heated so much to uncontrollable state, north against west, west against east, east against north and vices vasa.

The sage says, If the incessant killing of a chameleon in a cooking spot is not shameful to the chameleon then the cooking spot should be shameful for once, people lives are now valueless under the administration of the day instead they are more concern about there demonic party revalidation and registration, as a Nigerian we need to ask some questions, such as; is this what we bargained for, is this what APC promise us back in 2015, then if the answer is No then we need to have a rethink come 2023.

No wonder John Steinbeck said and i quote “All war is a symptom of man’s failure as a thinking animal.” the looming war in Nigeria is as a result of APC government failure.

The present situation call for sober reflection and our leaders must go back to our source, most especially in the aspect of justice and unity among all sundry, without justice the trend might continue because some people feel marginalized and as such keep on calling for war, many as become orphan, widow, homeless and hopeless and of what consolations do we have for such people not to call for war?……What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or in the holy name of liberty or democracy?”.

The fact remains that some part of the country are neglected in terms of appointment, infrastructural development, Education, finance etc. Just within few months we have experience two major attack on our schools in the northern part that lead to abduction of diverse number of students, whereas the president as not deem it fit to declare bandits, kidnappers and herdsmen a terrorist group, what a worrisome situation we found ourselves. How can you have a war on terrorism when war itself is terrorism?”.

If the right thing is not done, major priority is not given to the situation at hand presently, I hope Nigeria will not experience anarchy, death scores, Civil war, because it inhuman and barbarian act seeing the government stopping peaceful protesters with heavy armed men at lekki tollgate for selfish gain but failed to address kidnapping, banditry, terrorism and ethnic killing with such energy, what a misleading and misplaced priority.

In conclusion, It isn’t enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn’t enough to believe in it. One must work at it, the government must be able to toll a peaceful path to avert this looming explosion of havoc, we can only find peace not by trying to escape our problems, but by confronting them courageously. We will find peace not in denial, but in victory, Peace is a daily, a weekly, a monthly process, gradually changing opinions, slowly eroding old barriers, quietly building new structures, Peace brings with it so many positive emotions that it is worth aiming for in all circumstances and No person, no place, no thing has any power over us, for ‘we’ are the only thinkers in our mind. When we create peace and harmony and balance in our minds, we will find it in our lives.

Let there be peace in Nigeria!!!
