A severe accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Saapade occurred on Saturday at approximately 2:58 pm, resulting in one fatality and leaving ten others seriously injured.
The incident involved a white Mazda bus with the registration number GGE 858 XY.
Reports indicate the bus was traveling at high speed when a tyre burst caused the driver to lose control, leading the vehicle to overturn.
Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the details in a statement.
She reported that the injured were taken to Patmag Hospital in Ogere for treatment, while the deceased’s body was transported to the FOS Morgue in Ipara Remo.
According to the FRSC statement, the crash involved 17 people: eight adult males, seven adult females, one female child, and one male child. Tragically, one adult female died in the accident.
The ten injured included two adult males, six adult females, one male child, and one female child.
The FRSC has attributed the crash to excessive speed, a tyre burst, and subsequent loss of control.
Ogun State FRSC Sector Commander, Akinwumi Fasakin, urged motorists to regularly inspect their tyres for expiry dates and tread quality, advising against the use of substandard tyres.
He noted that a tyre burst at a controlled speed might have resulted in a less severe outcome.
