Olympics: Tobi Amusan Advances to 100m Hurdles Semis

World champion Tobi Amusan has advanced to the semi-finals of the 100-meter hurdles at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
 
Amusan led her heat with a time of 12.49 seconds, ahead of America’s Alaysha Johnson, who clocked 12.61 seconds, and Jamaica’s Janeek Brown, who finished with 12.84 seconds. On Wednesday,.
 
Amusan is a strong contender for the gold medal, facing tough competition from athletes such as the Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton, USA’s Alaysha Johnson, world champion Danielle Williams, and reigning Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn from Puerto Rico.
 
The semi-finals are scheduled for Friday, August 9, with the final set for Saturday, August 10, the penultimate day of the athletic events. At 27, Amusan has been in excellent form, achieving a season’s best and world-leading time of 12.40 seconds at the Jamaican Athletics Invitational in May.
 
Earlier in the year, she set the African indoor record for the 60m hurdles twice, in January and February.
 
In March, she claimed her third consecutive African Games title in Ghana, anchored the women’s 4x100m relay to gold in Accra, and won at the African Championships in Cameroon three months later.
 
This season, Amusan has competed in 17 events, including the 60m, 100m, 100m hurdles, and 4x100m relay.
 
She is a three-time consecutive Diamond League winner, two-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist, two-time African champion, and three-time African Games gold medalist, with previous Olympic appearances in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.
