Oil Giant NNPC/Mobil Empowers ICT Training to Empower 100 Youths

In alignment with the Petroleum Industry Act of 2021, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN), in partnership with the Eastern Obolo, Mkpat Enin, Onna, Ikot Abasi, Eket, and Esit Eket Host Community Development Trust (EMOIMEE), launched a six-week ICT training workshop on Wednesday, August 14.

The programme, themed “Mastering ICT Skills for the Future,” is aimed at equipping 100 youths from the five clans of Ikot Abasi with essential digital skills.

Hon. Justus Ntuk, a member of the Board of Trustees representing Ikot Abasi and a former commissioner with the National Assembly Commission, highlighted that the initiative aligns with the core objectives of the Trust.

These objectives, he said, focus on uplifting and building capacity among the youth through specialised ICT training and empowerment, ultimately preparing the next generation for future challenges.

Ntuk noted that EMOIMEE is committed to driving community development projects that address the specific needs of the host communities of multinational oil companies.

These projects prioritise education, healthcare, infrastructure, and capacity-building initiatives.

He noted that Ikot Abasi, as a member of EMOIMEE HCDT, has awarded ₦400,000 scholarships to each of its 250,000 students in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

He assured that this scholarship programme will be sustained and expanded.

Addressing the participants, Ntuk, who is also a former commissioner with the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), urged them to seize the opportunity and enhance their lives.

He also stressed the importance of computer literacy in today’s world.

Senator Helen Esuene, chairman of the occasion and Board of Trustees of EMOIMEE, represented by Engr. Sunny Udoh, described EMOIMEE as a blessing to the host communities.

She encouraged the participants to take full advantage of the training and immerse themselves in the global digital landscape.

Barr. Uwem Ekanem, pioneer majority leader of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and former chairman of Ikot Abasi, underscored the importance of investing in human capital as a foundation for a peaceful and prosperous future.

He introduced the facilitator, Nsikan Udoh, to the participants.

Other notable speakers included Barr. Godwin Udonta, Chairman of the Ikot Abasi Transition Committee; Arc. Ufot Udoinyang, President General of Mboho Ikot Abasi; and Barr. Ekong Umorok, President of the Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio Ikot Abasi Chapter.

In his vote of thanks, Dr. Akpan Micah Umoh, an advisory committee member and former member of the Federal House of Representatives, expressed gratitude to the dignitaries for their presence and commended the facilitator for his efforts in imparting valuable skills to the participants.

He expressed optimism that the training would significantly benefit the youths.

The event, held at the Unity Hall of Ukpum Okon, was well-attended by the youths, who eagerly participated in the programme.
