The Ogun State Police Command, in a determined effort to enhance the safety of commuters and residents, has deployed a specialized intervention squad along the Sagamu–Ijebu Ode–Benin Expressway.

The move came as a response to rising concerns over criminal activities, particularly kidnapping and armed robbery, in the area.

On March 19, 2025, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, conducted a thorough inspection of the security operations at a newly established intervention post.

This strategic outpost is situated just before Odogbolu, strategically placed between Celplas Industry, Mikano Generator, and Ladgroup Company.

Designed as a rapid response centre, it aims to assist in emergency situations and swiftly respond to distress calls from commuters and residents in Ijebu Ode, Sagamu, and Owode Egba areas.

The Commissioner outlined that “this initiative is an important facet of a broader security strategy.”

The enhanced security presence along the expressway is bolstered by key deployments, including two OP MESA security points positioned both inward and outward at Lagos on the Long Bridge, and reinforced posts with Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) at the Sagamu Interchange.

In the wake of surveillance operations carried out on February 27, 2025, the police have taken significant steps to block escape routes commonly utilized by kidnappers.

This includes the erection of barriers to prevent unauthorized movement along known footpaths, thereby restricting potential getaway points that criminals might exploit.

To ensure optimal security, a dedicated Quick Intervention Squad has now been permanently stationed in the area, supported by additional teams patrolling the expressway in Armoured Personnel Carriers stationed at significant points like the Sagamu Intersection.

With these proactive measures, the Ogun State Police Command is sending a clear message to would-be criminals: “the safety of the public is paramount, and any threats to that safety will be met with swift and decisive action.”

Commuters can now feel more secure as they travel along this vital corridor, thanks to the heightened police presence and strategic security interventions.
