Ogun APC Councilorship Candidate, Adeleke, Assassinated in Broad Daylight

Adeyinka Adeleke, a councilorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, was brutally murdered on Saturday afternoon in the Jide Jones area of Abeokuta South Local Government.

Adeleke, who was contesting for the position of councilor in Ward 15 ahead of the November 16 local government elections, was reportedly ambushed by gunmen in a tinted vehicle.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers fired sporadically, causing panic and chaos in the neighbourhood. A source familiar with the incident revealed that the gunmen not only shot Adeleke but also used stones to ensure his death.

“The gunmen arrived in a tinted car, shot him, and then used stones to ensure he was dead. People were running for their lives as the area became chaotic,” the source, who requested anonymity, explained.

A video circulating on social media captured the aftermath of the attack, showing Adeleke’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood while shocked onlookers could be heard crying in the background.

Another witness confirmed that one of the gunmen shot Adeleke at close range before repeatedly striking his head to confirm his death. “It was terrifying,” the witness said. “The attack happened around 2 pm, and it caught everyone off guard. Shops closed down, and the tension in the area is high.”

Adeleke was a well-known figure in the Panseke area of Abeokuta, where he worked as a transport union member during his lifetime. His sudden death has raised concerns among residents, with some speculating that the murder may be linked to cult-related violence, though no official confirmation has been made.

A senior police officer confirmed the incident and disclosed that the victim’s family had taken the body for burial. “Yes, it happened. The family has taken the body for burial,” the officer stated.

However, as of the time of this report, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, had not responded to inquiries about the tragic event.

Residents of Abeokuta South Local Government remain on high alert, mourning the loss of yet another political figure in such a violent and brazen manner.
