Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged traditional rulers to maintain peace in their respective kingdoms, noting that peaceful communities contribute to a stable and conducive environment for socio-economic growth across the state.

The governor’s call for peace was made during the third coronation anniversary thanksgiving of the Olu of Warri, HRM Ogiame Atuwatse III, held at the Olu Palace in Warri on Sunday.

Represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, Governor Oborevwori highlighted the importance of peace in fostering development and attracting investment to Delta State.

“Delta is composed of various kingdoms and communities, and if all these areas are peaceful, the state as a whole will be peaceful. When we ensure peace, investors will be drawn to Delta in large numbers, leading to widespread benefits and the realization of good governance,” Oborevwori stated.

Congratulating the Olu of Warri on his coronation anniversary, the governor said, “It is a great pleasure to be part of this significant occasion. On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Your Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, on this special day of thanksgiving.”

He praised the Olu for concluding the anniversary with thanksgiving, drawing parallels with biblical figures like King David and King Hezekiah, who both emphasised the importance of trusting in God and offering thanks. Oborevwori cited Psalm 28:7, which states, “The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him, my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song, I give thanks to him.”

The governor also expressed his satisfaction with the Olu’s efforts to foster relationships with other kingdoms and attract investors to Warri and Delta State, aligning these actions with his administration’s MORE Agenda for meaningful development.

“As a government, we are committed to the meaningful development of our state. I urge everyone here today to continue supporting the government’s initiatives, respecting our traditional rulers, and engaging in positive activities. Let us live peacefully with one another, and we will all share in the benefits,” he added.

In his remarks, the Olu of Warri expressed gratitude to God for His faithfulness and blessings upon the Itsekiri people and the kingdom. “This thanksgiving is part of our covenant with God for His continued blessings,” he said.

Earlier in the event, Rev. Chris Akperi of the Foursquare Gospel Church delivered a sermon, encouraging unity, love, and respect for authority. He urged the people to reject evil, which he noted only hinders progress, and to embrace goodness and peace.

The service concluded with prayers for the Olu, the Warri Kingdom, Delta State, and Nigeria.
