OAU Mourns Final-Year Student Killed by Reckless Driver

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, is in mourning following the tragic death of a final-year student from the Department of Foreign Languages.

The student, Esu Rita Ema (Matriculation Number FRM/2019/041), was struck and killed by a Lexus car with Abuja registration number ABJ 427 LQ, driven by Lasisi Sodiq Segun.

Ema was crossing the Ife-Ibadan road near the campus gate while heading to submit her final-year project when the accident occurred.

The Federal Road Safety Corps recovered her body and transported it to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex mortuary around 12:35 p.m.

The Nigerian Police have arrested the driver for further investigation.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire expressed deep sorrow over the loss.

He conveyed his condolences to Ema’s family through the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Adeolu Odedire.

Professor Bamire said, “It is extremely painful to lose a loved one, and the grief is even more profound when the person was a promising young adult with so much potential. A final-year student, no less.”

He urged the family, friends, and classmates to find solace in their faith, adding, “May the Lord grant us all the strength to endure this irreplaceable loss.”
