Election: NYSC DG assures corps members of safety

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yusha’u Dogara Ahmed has assured the corps members that will be working as ad-hoc staff during the general election of adequate saftety.

The DG made the call while addressing the 2023 Batch ‘A’ Stream One, Corps members at National Youth Service Corps, Oyo State orientation Camp, Iseyin on Thursday.

He said, “as the general election is fast approaching and they will be gainfully engaged by the Independent National Electoral Commission as ad-hoc staff that their security and welfare is secured.

“Anytime from now, the general election will be coming up, the corps members are the ones that will be used for the Adhoc staff, participating in the election is optional but I encourage each and everyone of you to key into it because there’s joy and pride in voting for your country and you will be paid for whatever work you do.
What was paid the last election, this time has improved.

“Your welfare has been taken care of. I have visited the AG of Police, INEC, Civil Defence, DSS to get the assurance of the safety of corps members in the general election.

“Your security is guaranteed. There will be provision of vehicles to convey you to the election premises and back. Don’t make trouble with anybody, you are an adhoc staff. Don’t go there to guide the INEC materials, the security agencies have been saldled with the responsibility to guide the electoral materials.

He urged the corps members to key into and be resolute. Be assured that their welfare is taken into consideration.He said, there’s no how you will be secured until you take your personal security very important. You must watch your environment and ensure you are at the right place all the time.

The DG also expressed his satisfaction with the corps performance.

“I am pleased with you. Right from the gate, your environment is very clean. Your colleagues have represented you well at the quarter guard. I am highly impressed with their performance.
We in the military asses those who are disciplined through the quarter guard”.

He advised them to ensure that they leave good legacies in their place of primary assignments and host communities.

He also warned against posting their grievances on social media, urging them to rather forward such complaints to the management of the scheme for possible amicable resolutions just as he assured them of the commitment of his administration to prioritise their welfare and security.

“Maintain the rules and regulations of the orientation Camp at all times and you most not been found wanting and shun all forms of social vices ranging from cyber crime, drugs and smoking” he added.

Speaking earlier, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr Odoba Oche, also assured the corps members of adequate welfare.

According to him, Oyo State is the only state that pays 15,000 to corps members.

Demonstrating his commitment to corps welfare, hundred plastic chairs and ten standing fans were gifted to the scheme and two cows to the corps members.

Donations of cash gift were also given to the three camp directors, the parade commander, the quarter guard, the band, the cultural band and the man o war by the DG.
