The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has debunked the trending news on social media about a corps member who claimed to be posted to Amotekun for his one-year mandatory service to the nation.
According to a press release e-signed by the Assistant Director, Press and Public Relations Unit, Mrs. Olatoye Christy, and made available to National Telescope on Saturday, Amotekun was not included on the list of employers in the NYSC database.
However, the Western Nigeria Security Network code, named “Amotekun,” is a well-respected organization.
The statement reads, “The attention of the NYSC Oyo State has been drawn to a story trending on social media of a Corps member posted to Amotekun Corps.
“I want to set the record straight that it is the policy of the National Youth Service Corps to post Corps members where they would be relevant and their services well utilized. While I admit that the Amotekun Corps is a respected organization in its line of work, it is not included on the list of employers in our database. We only post to employers in our database.
“I want to state clearly that a posting letter with such deployment did not emanate from the NYSC Oyo State. The fellow is just trying to gain undue attention to himself while using his antics to misinform the public. But for whatever purpose he’s towing this path,it is quite unfortunate.
“The National Youth Service Corps is a noble scheme that has served the nation for over five decades with notable achievements to our records. It is therefore not an organization that should be used as an object of prank.”
