No fewer than 1,131 National Youth Service Corps Members of 2022 Batch ‘C’ Stream 2 have been deployed to Oyo State for a one-year compulsory service.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the NYSC orientation Camp, Iseyin on Tuesday.
Speaking at the event, the NYSC Acting Director-General, Mrs. Christy Uba admonished the corps members to demonstrate a high level of discipline and take advantage of the training they will acquire during the service year.
Uba who was represented by the Coordinator of NYSC in Oyo State, Mrs. Grace Ogbuogebe, stated that the training has been designed to equip Corps members towards the realization of their potential and attainment of fear during and after the period of service.
She cautioned them against cultism, drug abuse, and other social vices as well as the use of social media for spreading fake news. Adding that, the offended would be punished accordingly.
She said, “It is with immense delight that I welcome you as you are formally inducted into the National Youth Service Corps. I congratulate you on your various academic achievements which qualified you to be mobilized for the National Service. I also commend your patriotic disposition as demonstrated in your readiness to participate in the orientation exercise”
“As you are aware, one of the major objectives of NYSC is the promotion of national unity and integration. This informed your deployment away from your State of origin and your assemblage here from diverse ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds.
“This policy will not only offer you the opportunity for a broader understanding of the country, but also entrench the culture of working together in an atmosphere filled with friendship, peace, harmony, and a shared vision of a great and prosperous Nigeria.” She added.
“I implore you to sustain the high level of discipline and enthusiasm you have demonstrated so far, especially by remaining compliant with the camp recipes and regulations. You must continue to distance yourselves from Cultism, drug abuse, and other social vices. I also urge you to avoid using social media for spreading fake news, fueling hatred, and other negative purposes and instead deploy smart for the promotion of national unity and development. You are strongly advised to be security conscious at all times, and to report any suspicious characters or activities around you to the appropriate authorities.”
“At this junction, I would like to remind you that white-collar jobs are not readily available. Therefore, I encourage you to avail yourselves of opportunities for self-employment offered through our Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme. You are expected to choose from any of the skill areas and make yourselves available for the training, which starts from Orientation Camp.” She added.
The highlight of the event was the administration of the oath of allegiance to the corps members by the Oyo State Chief Judge, Justice Munkar Abimbola who was represented by Justice Iyabode Yerima.
A total of 1,131 corps members were posted to Oyo State as follows: males 454, and females, 677.
Meanwhile, 656 corps members were dislodged from Lagos to Oyo State NYSC Orientation Camp for the three weeks orientation exercise.
Present at the event were the representative of collaborating Agencies which includes, the Nigeria Army, Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, and Man O’ War amongst others.
