Journalists in the Kwara State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) have reaffirmed their confidence in the leadership of Abdulhakeem Garba of Channels TV.
This decision was solidified during an emergency congress held on Tuesday, where Nicholas Uwerunonye of Daily Independent moved a motion for a vote of confidence, which was seconded by Oluseyi Dasilva of Arise TV.
The vote of confidence recognises the chapel’s leadership for its dedication to improving members’ welfare and defending their rights, particularly surrounding the recent state council election.
In his remarks, Uwerunonye praised the leadership of over five years, citing various welfare initiatives that have positively impacted the lives of its members.
He encouraged other NUJ bodies at both state and national levels to follow this example by prioritising members’ interests and avoiding unnecessary conflicts.
Uwerunonye also prayed for continued divine guidance for the chapel’s leadership and urged members to maintain their support.
Similarly, Dasilva commended the executive team for their exceptional service, noting that their efforts have set a high standard for others to follow.
He reiterated the importance of the executive’s role in fostering a supportive and united community within the chapel.
In response to the overwhelming show of support, Chapel Chairman Abdulhakeem Garba, initially surprised by the motion, expressed his gratitude to the members for their trust.
He called for continued unity and support within the chapel, emphasising that their collective efforts are essential for the chapel’s ongoing success.
