The Women’s Wing of the Nawair-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria (NUDS) recently celebrated her annual Mothers’ Day event at the Banquet Hall of the Kwara State Government House.

The event, which drew attendance of prominent figures from across the country, highlighted the crucial role of mothers in Islam and society, with a call for enhanced support for women and children.

Dignitaries at the celebration included the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Religion (Islam), Alhaji Ibrahim Danmaigoro, and the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Opeyemi O. Afolashade.

In her opening address, the National Chairperson of NUDS Women’s Wing, Alhaja Muibat Folashade Aribidesi, expressed her gratitude to the attendees and emphasised the importance of empowering women as role models.

She reaffirmed the wing’s dedication to promoting Islamic values, empowering youth and women, and addressing essential family issues.

Alhaja Aribidesi underscored the significant influence mothers have in shaping society, quoting Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to highlight the impact of a righteous mother on her family and the broader community.

The event celebrated women who have made outstanding contributions to the propagation of Islam and service to humanity, honouring them as “Iconic Mothers in Islam.”

Discussions during the event centred on family security, children’s welfare, and education.

Alhaja Aribidesi also announced plans to establish a Muslim orphanage in Ilorin and a vocational centre to train widows and underprivileged women in various crafts. She encouraged participants to support these initiatives through donations.

The National President of the Society, Alhaji Rasheed Olayinka Yussuf, reiterated the global recognition of motherhood and its vital role in human development.

He congratulated the honourees for their dedication to nurturing the younger generation and supporting their families, despite facing limited resources.

Alhaji Yussuf called on the NUDS Women’s Wing to continue to organise skill acquisition workshops, capacity-building training, and empowerment programmes aimed at improving the living standards of women, mothers, and widows within the community.

He also praised the leadership of the National Amirah, Alhaja Muyibat Aribidesi, for her exceptional performance since assuming office.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, through his representative, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to collaborating with religious groups to advance the state.

He urged parents, particularly mothers, to intensify their efforts in raising their children and promised to continue providing opportunities for women to achieve their goals.

Professor Mulkah A. Ahmed, in her lecture on “Generational Influence: Unveiling the Power of a Devoted Mother,” emphasised the need to recognise and support the essential role of mothers in society.

She highlighted that the sacrifices and dedication of mothers are crucial to the well-being of future generations and called for greater public support for initiatives that empower women.

The event concluded with a heartfelt prayer for all mothers, asking for Allah’s blessings for their health, patience, wisdom, and reward in the highest place in Jannah (Paradise).
